... as the day sinks into night, i notice how beautiful the light is. i take out my cellphone and snap a photo, trying to capture the fleeting beauty. later i see that i caught only fraction of what i saw. where did the rest go?

I was walking through the forest last week on the way to my grandmother's when I lost my way. As the daylight slipped away I began to panic. I had heard that these parts were inhabited by wild beasts, boars and wolves, and I feared that I would not survive the night. And so I walked on...

all the things i didn't see

this post is to stand in for the photo i didn't post here today because i didn't take any photos or videos with my mobile phone today.

which is kind of the raison d'etre of this blog.

i want to get into the habit of using my mobile phone camera to sketch scenes from life.

this phone is the only thing that is always with me. always.

it's also a camera.

that's a great thing.

Not long after Obama's election, on my way to the Gare du Nord, I saw a wall plastered with these posters. I couldn't figure out if they were art or social protest. (I later discovered they were social protest.)

Madrid May 2008

Last May I was in Madrid. Near my hotel was a park. The Madrid version of Central Park or Tuilleries. I rememberd being struck by the quantity of young people lying around on the grass and hanging out. I remember that more than half of the those hundreds of kids were on their cellphone.

Later I saw a guy sitting by some very weird trees. Finely sculpted...
